Background

Fundamental challenges of the 21st century:
- Realization of low carbon society
- Victory over the problems of hyper-aging society
→ Realization of low carbon society under the constrain of aging society
→ Proposal of a definite shape of "Social System" that should be realized in the 21st century


Problem

Rate of elderly to the total population:
-2010:23%
-2020:30%
-2050:40%
→ Making compact cities would lead to lay the land waste and to decline local economies.


Concept

Creation of the advanced environmental city that leads the world
1. Low carbon city that adapts the climate change and provides rich and green environment
2. Reduction in energy consumption without reducing the scale of the city
3. City where the elderly can play an active role


Target Setting

◎ Strengthening of green society infrastructure (rich green environment)
Creation of the advanced environmental city that leads the world

These targets correspond to "Platinum City Concept" that was proposed by Hiroshi Komiyama, chairman of the board of Mitsubishi Research Institute, Inc. and ex-president of the University of Tokyo.
