Program Overview

This program "Urban Reformation Program for Realization of Bright Low Carbon Society" is implemented as one of the FY2010 special coordination fund promoting science and technology programs; "Social System Reformation Program for Creation of New Society matching Climate Change".


Implementation period is 5 years from 2010 to 2015.


The purpose of this program is to realize the bright and low carbon society by promoting contribution of the elderly generation’s equity and capabilities positively to the society while we are now facing simultaneous progress of aging population and low carbon society.
For this purpose, it is essential to try to solve the following challenges.

  • Low-carbonization of the elderly’s home equity

  • Low-carbonization of support system for the elderly’s activities
  • Low-carbonization by the elderly themselves as responsible players


The following researches and developments is carried out in order to solve the challenges.

  • Super-energy saving heat pump by utilizing solar energy
  • Super-compact electric vehicle
  • Training program of the vegetation physician for the elderly

Followings are moved ahead on for the social systems reformations.

  • We will try to give shape to technology developments and social reformations through integrated demonstrations at Kashiwa-no-ha Campus Town where a city is close to nature
  • We will further make a model of the bright and low carbon city, make a package of information results, and promote to disseminate and expand the model through the package in Japan as well in the world.
